UNICEF Workshop

UNICEF Workshop

From Sunday, December 14 through Saturday the 20th, I spent part of my time every day attending a UNICEF-sponsored workshop for grade 1 and 2 teachers. I was there to observe and evaluate the facilitators and content. My friend and UNISWA colleague Virginia Dlamini Akintola was one presenter and the other was a local first grade teacher named Sharon Singleton. I really enjoyed the time I spent there, as I learned more about how to teach young learners (not my specialty); plus, I learned about the challenges faced by Swazi primary teachers (everything from overcrowding to orphaned and malnourished students, excessive corporal punishment and lack of supplies and training). I also got to know Virginia and Sharon, who are great women and dedicated professionals. The photos attached include a couple of the workshop in action and some posed photos of Sharon, Virginia and me.
